Obituary

On Wednesday, April 15, 2020, James J. Murphy III, known to family and friends as “Joe” passed away at the age of 81. Joe was born on May 27, 1938 to James (Bud) and Jennie (DeCarlo) Murphy in Baltimore, Md. In 1962, he met Patricia (Blackman) to whom he remained married until her passing in 2011. Joe is survived by two Daughters, Teresa McCown and son in law, Michael McCown; and Kathy McDaniel and son in law, Jerry McDaniel. Joe has 6 Grandchildren, Kristen A. McCown- Fleagle, Michael M. McCown, Zachary J. Mogayzel (deceased), Charles J. Mogayzel-McDaniel, Bradley C. Mogayzel-McDaniel and Emily Z. McCown.

Joe attended Mount Saint Joseph High School where upon his graduation he served four years in the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge, Joe joined the Baltimore City Fire Department where he spent the next 39 years serving the citizens of Baltimore. During his career he received numerous awards and commendations for his outstanding service. After his retirement on March 5, 2000, Joe went on to work another 16 years delivering mail at the Maritime Institute in Linthicum Heights, Md.

Although Joe never fully recovered from the loss of his beloved Baltimore Colts, he was an avid football fan and loved and supported his Baltimore Ravens. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was most happy watching a John Wayne western.

Due to the current state of our world with COVID-19, we are unable to have any type of viewing or Memorial service at this time., however there will be a live-stream of the services on the Loudon Park Funeral Home, Inc. Facebook page beginning on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at 11 AM. The video will then be posted permanently on that page. Plans for a future Memorial service will be made as soon as it is permissible.

In lieu of flowers the family would ask that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
